It doesn't get any better than this. Service was fantastic and the food was top notch. Nick Pettelli is the Chef and really knows what he is doing. We are definitely coming back!

This is a pretty new Italian place that takes its food seriously. The menu is limited but has good offerings in several categories. My lady had a beet and Gorgonzola salad and a mahi mahi entree, both excellent. My rigatoni alla bolognese was authentic. Where I live (New Hampshire) most restaurants get their bolognese out of a jar and it's mostly tomato. Not so here. The staff was excellent. Our waitress knew exactly how every dish was made. The chef is serious about his food and makes sure the staff has tried every dish and knows what is in it. Give this place a shot. The prices are reasonable and the food was excellent. We will be back.

Omg, what's great choice! Falsely alerted by an empty parking lot, but we were there early.. and I can't say enough how good the food was. We had calamari app, ribeye, salmon for entrees, a side of parmesan fries, and raspberry cheesecake and nutella mousse for dessert. We can't stop talking about it 4 hours later... Service was exceptional also. You will not go wrong here..

Excellent service - we were there early evening - and great food. A little deceiving / menu listed "prawns" but they were cut into pieces. When we asked about it, waitress said it just changed without her knowledge. Mess good for the price.

This place is closed. We are locales and never ate their. We liked the goal post which was there before. Smugglers also owns harpoon harrys. The menu at smugglers should have been american cuisine.

Had a wonderful late lunch/ early dinner! Heather took very good care of us & the food was delicious. Hubby had the bacon cheeseburger & I had the roast beef panini. We shared the Parmesan dip which was off the chart fabulous! This was our first time here but we look forward to being regulars! Enjoy

Underrated PC gem! Food prepared by a real chef. No shortcuts with the food. I had a chicken sandwich.

This was my new favorite restaurant. Friends brought us there last week and we went back a few days later. But now it has closed! Does anybody know why? So disappointed.

Second time visiting Smugglers Grille and have to say one of my favorite places in the area. The Gnocchi and Bolognese were out of this world. The Pizetta app was great and a huge portion for six dollars. Service has been fantastic both times and the manager is so friendly and welcoming, we will be back soon for sure!

Great service by Erica. We had their salmon dish, it was excellent! Compliments to the chef! The salads, both Caesar and mixed greens were perfect. Definitely will go back.

Panini was overdone. Piadene is hard to eat- Place is nice but the food and menu is a little on the weak side.

The husband and I were looking for something new and fabulous near Punta Gorda. We found it here. Started with calamari, green beans and onions fritti which was outstanding! I had the soft shell crab sandwich with tomato, avocado, lettuce and chili aioli with hand cut Parmesan fries. Husband had sausage and pepper panini with the same fries. Both of us would rank these sandwiches as among the best we have ever had! Everything is made from scratch, including pasta, sausages, cheese and bread. Nice space with a cool urban vibe. Fabulous service! Go now!

Visiting parents for week, looking for something that's not a chain and found this place on yelp. It's amazing, you should go here instead of the sea of mediocre chains along rt41. Wife had cucumber soup and salmon which were both great. I had mahi mahi which was exceptional. Prices are very reasonable, totally in line with other chains (spent 10$ more for a terrible meal at a nearby chain the previous night). There are fancy entree options, although they also have burgers, basic pasta dishes, and a kids menu. That said the menu is small enough that you can believe their claims that everything is made scratch (also evident from food quality). Nice service and casual but relaxing ambiance.

Wow!! I'm 1000% impressed with this place. Food is terrific. Head chef is the real deal. Heather in the outdoor bar is so knowledgeable and professional about the menu. It is VERY hard to impress me , but I am truly impressed with this place. Will be back many times!!!

We love the smugglers grille, and aren't sure why it remains a secret. The food is excellent, and very inspired - the chef is creative, solid and consistent. And the service is also excellent - everybody is cheerful without being too perky, and professional. Good wine selection as well. We highly recommend it!

I will definitely eat here again. Everything I ate had a wonderful mix of flavors. This is not the norm in this area. Most everything around here is very predictable and boring. NOT HERE! I had the Germogli which was a tasty mix of brussel sprouts, almonds, pecorino, and egg with a tangy dressing...a very nice salad served cold. Different....delicious. Also ordered the Pizzetta which included a small dish of roasted garlic along with wedges of flat bread to spread the garlic on. Very tasty and we found the oil the roasted garlic was presented in was also delicious to dip the very tasty parmesan fries in. The Pollo (chicken) panini with roasted red pepper and pesto was also delicious as well as the Roast Beef Panini (Arrosto di Manzo). Also ordered the Piadine Gorgonzola which was a salad of arugula, tomato, gorgonzola, and onion served on a fresh made flat bread...fantastic! I just hope this restaurant makes it in Port Charlotte. This level of innovation and flavor is very much appreciated by me!

We have eaten at Smugglers Grille on 4 different occasions. Each time we have received exemplary service from the wait staff and manager. The staff is very knowledgable of the dishes on the menu. Any questions they weren't able to answer, they were more than happy to ask the chef. They were solicitous without being overly so. The decor is simple, clean lines, lending an urban feel. The tables were spaced nicely. The noise level is quiet so you are able to easily converse at the table. Cloth napkins, heavy silverware, nice white stoneware plates Food has always been outstanding on every visit! And it always comes out piping hot. Some our favorites: the fungi (mushroom) pizza is most delicious with a crispy bottom and chewy crust. The crust is wonderful! We've enjoyed the salmon several times, large piece of salmon served over a deliciously unique farro and squash warm side dish. This farro is so good we ordered it ala carte on another visit. Other dishes we've had that have all been good are swordfish, linguine in a white wine clam sauce, roast beef panini, awesome hamburger cooked to perfection, Parmesan fries to die for. They offer something for everyone. We have also had the brussel sprout salad very unique, but I think it's going off the menu due to seasonality, and the simple mista salad is surprisingly very tasty. Salads are definitely large enough to share. Pizzettta app is wonderfully delicious. Desert- we've only had the tiramisu because it is so good. We think the pricing is very reasonable for the quality and serving size received. We think the restaurant is one of the best in the area and hope it stays for a long while!

What a fantastic transition and just what the area needed. Decor was contemporary/urban with charming rustic chairs (very comfortable). Tables were spaced nicely apart and ambiance was quiet and well lit. My dining companion would like to see a candle on the table. Servers wore a semi-uniform which is nice compared to the past "personal costumes" worn at the Goal Post. Menu was sophisticated yet simple. Italian theme with seafood entrees. Chicken panini was tasty as were the parm fries. Ran out of special on meatballs but hope they offer them again. House wine was good and dinner quite reasonable. Servers were efficient and friendly as was the manager. I would highly recommend this to everyone. Patrons were nicely dressed for the most part and the place had an upscale vibe. Something we don't see much of in Port Charlotte. Good job, Management! Hope to see it survive.

This place was amazing. The food was delicious and the service was great. There are also some good options for vegetarians. I had the Vendura Panini and loved it!

Had lunch on 2 previous occasions. Both 5 * . Tried it for dinner. Very good menu, very reasonably priced entrees. My wife couldn't find the ham & cheese panini that's served for lunch. She asked server, Jessica, if she could have it even though it wasn't on dinner menu. Without hesitation, Jessica said "of course." I ordered the linguini with clams. On par with that served at Carmello's, & Italia, for 1/2 the price. Let's hope they can 'hang in there' now that the Snow Birds are gone.

This restaurant is very nicely decorated and it has a nice atmosphere. It has a full bar. We understand it is part of a group of locally owned restaurants, which should mean that there is potential for great things. But that is where the good news ends. The menu is very strange. It tries to be all things to all people and just doesn't work. It tries to offer everything from Panini sandwiches to dinner entrees. The Panini offerings are mixed in with the pasta dishes and are somewhat hard to differentiate. Other entrees such as the grilled chicken breast with sliced apple and arugula sound good but what you get are two average sized but nicely cooked chicken breasts with a handful of arugula and a very few slices of apple for $16! No vegetables, bread or starch. Tasty but not worth $16. The other three in the party also had entrees that, while tasty, were meager for the price! This restaurant has potential but really needs to make some changes before it is too late. The night we were there the crowd was very light and we can see why.

We came to Smuggler's Grille expecting an average dining experience since the parking lot was only half full on a Saturday night. Boy, were we wrong. We had the best dinner we've had since coming to Port Charlotte. My salmon was cooked to perfection with an excellent toasted farro & butternut squash side & served piping hot. My husband had the pasta special with homemade marinara & meatballs. Our server, Kelly, was very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We highly recommend you try it and can't wait to come back!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
